Works to preserve the church of Ayios Fotios Selenias in Karpasia have been completed, the bicommunal technical committee on cultural heritage said on Sunday, adding that works to restore the Arif Bey aqueduct are underway.
The Arif Bey aqueduct is in the village of Afania in Mesaoria.
Commenting on the works, Soteris Ktoris, the Greek Cypriot head of the bicommunal committee, said that Ayios Fotios is south of the road that connects the villages of Yialousa and Rizokarpaso, and is dated to have been built in the 7th-8th century during the Arab conquests.
The last works on the church were in 1960.
Later in another announcement, Ktoris said works were underway for the restoration of the Arif Bey aqueducts in Afania.
Ktoris said that 69 arches remain of the aqueduct and that it is from the 18th century.
The work was financed by the European Union and carried out with the assistance of UNDP.
