Emergency grid managers suspended islandwide rotating power cuts at 20:22 on Wednesday evening after electricity generation successfully caught up with consumer demand, bringing a temporary end to a nationwide energy alert.
The decision to call off the load-shedding protocol came just under two hours after the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) instituted emergency 30-minute power cuts across all districts at 18:52.
Rotating blackouts were activated across pre-designated geographic groups in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Famagusta, and Paphos when surge consumption outstripped available production capacity following the post-dusk loss of solar output.
Grid authorities remain on high alert, warning that emergency load-shedding protocols may need to be reactivated in the coming days during the critical peak consumption window between 18:00 and 22:00.
