Air Astana launched its inaugural direct flight from Astana to Larnaca Airport on Wednesday, opening a new connection between Cyprus and Kazakhstan.
The route will operate twice weekly, every Tuesday and Saturday. From June 4, the airline will also begin direct flights from Almaty to Larnaca, running every Thursday and Sunday. Both routes are served by Airbus A321LR aircraft and are scheduled to continue at least until September. The flight from Astana to Larnaca takes approximately five hours and 40 minutes, while the Almaty service takes approximately six hours and five minutes.
The inaugural flight also carried President Nikos Christodoulides and members of the government on the first official visit by a Cypriot president to Kazakhstan, which is the world’s ninth-largest country by land area, according to the Hermes Airports statement.
Passengers on the arriving inaugural flight were welcomed by Hermes Airports staff and presented with gift boxes containing Cypriot products and souvenirs.
Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communication at Hermes Airports, said the launch represented a positive development for Cyprus. “Establishing direct links with two major cities in Kazakhstan marks another important step in our ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s air connectivity and creates new opportunities for tourism and bilateral relations between our two countries,” she said.
