Police arrested 13 people overnight during organised, countrywide patrols targeting key points in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order and boosting the public’s sense of security.
The arrests covered a range of offences, including illegal stay in the Republic, drunkenness, causing a disturbance and breach of the peace, carrying a knife, illegal drug possession, illegal possession of property, illegal employment, fine warrants and traffic offences, among others.
During the operations, police stopped 586 vehicles for checks and inspected 730 people travelling in them. Officers also carried out 40 checks on premises targeting criminal activity, resulting in 12 complaints.
Traffic checks led to 286 citations for various road offences, while 10 further traffic violation cases remain under investigation. Of the citations issued, 156 were for speeding. Police impounded 8 vehicles during the checks.
Officers carried out 328 alcohol tests, resulting in 3 citations, along with 2 preliminary drug tests, of which 2 came back positive.
