The Deputy Ministry of Migration and Asylum has ordered the removal from Cyprus of Syrians involved in violent incidents in the Xylofagou community.
According to philenews information, Deputy Minister Nicholas Ioannides gave the instructions after being briefed by Famagusta Police, ordering the revocation of the individuals’ supplementary protection status with the aim of securing their departure from Cyprus.
A competent source said the government and the Deputy Ministry of Migration reiterate that they will not tolerate illegal and criminal behaviour that disturbs public order and national security.
The same source warned Cypriots who illegally employ Syrians or other foreigners that they must comply with state legislation and take responsibility towards society and the country.
Five people have been arrested so far and remain in custody, while police continue to search for other individuals involved.
