Three remanded over Kofinou robbery and abduction of 65-year-old

Larnaca District Court has ordered six days’ remand for two Greek Cypriots, aged 32 and 42, and a 44-year-old Greek national, who are suspects in a case of robbery, abduction, theft, assault and actual bodily harm, along with other serious offences, involving a 65-year-old victim from Kofinou.

The case was reported to police by the 65-year-old himself. According to his complaint, last Monday he met in Kofinou with three individuals, two of whom he knows, aged 32 and 42.

During the meeting, according to the complaint, the 42-year-old attacked and beat the complainant, then took €300 in cash, his mobile phone and his car keys from him.

The two men are then alleged to have forced him into a car driven by the third, unknown individual, and taken him to a premises the complainant maintains in Kofinou, where he mainly stores metal objects he buys from third parties.

There, according to the 65-year-old’s account, the alleged perpetrators seized his car keys and, after loading a quantity of copper found at the premises into the vehicle, left the scene in an unknown direction.

As part of the investigation, arrest warrants were secured against the 32- and 42-year-old. Following a coordinated operation by CID Nicosia, they were located in the Nicosia district, along with the 44-year-old Greek national, who was subsequently identified as the third individual referred to in the complainant’s report.

According to philenews information, the two Greek Cypriots had, some time ago, sold the 65-year-old various items, which were later found to have been stolen.

Police had located the stolen goods at the 65-year-old’s premises, with him stating that he had bought them from the two Greek Cypriots. A separate case of theft and receiving stolen goods has been filed against all three before Larnaca District Court. It is noted that the 32- and 42-year-old have previously come to police attention over burglary and theft cases.
