Police arrested a 28-year-old man at Larnaca airport last night on suspicion of drug trafficking, after he was found to be carrying drugs inside his body.
Acting on information received from the anti-drug unit (YKAN), officers working jointly with the Customs Department stopped the man just before 7pm as he arrived in Cyprus from abroad.
During questioning, the man allegedly admitted to carrying drugs internally. He was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where medical examinations found a large number of foreign objects inside his body, and he was held for treatment.
So far, he has expelled six egg-shaped packages containing cocaine, with a total gross weight of approximately 60 grams.
In proceedings held today at Larnaca General Hospital, the court issued an eight-day remand order against him for the purposes of investigating the case. He remains hospitalised under police guard.
The investigation is continuing, led by YKAN Larnaca.
