Commercial flights mix with Greek F-16 sorties in Paphos sky (videos)

Locals and tourists are filming the daily flights of Greek fighter jets stationed at Andreas Papandreou Airbase in Paphos.

The four jets, deployed in Cyprus to protect Nicosia’s Flight Information Region from air threats, will continue to be based at the Paphos airbase indefinitely.

Speaking on a programme with journalist Paris Potamitis, Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas said nothing changes regarding the presence of the aircraft in Cyprus. He added that the situation would be reviewed and monitored daily, and the presence of military aircraft and ships in Cyprus would be adjusted accordingly, “without this meaning they will leave.”

Philenews reported that the Greek fighter jets are expected to be replaced by a different type of aircraft from the Greek air force, along with the frigate ELLI, currently in Cypriot territorial waters, which is also expected to be swapped out while its crew rests.
