Police near end of probe into police officer’s attempted murder of partner

Police are in the final stages of their investigation into an attempted murder by a 55-year-old policeman, who then killed himself, as the 46-year-old woman he attacked continues to fight for her life, philenews has learnt.

The 46-year-old remains in the intensive care unit at Nicosia General Hospital. According to philenews, she underwent a new surgical procedure in the past 24 hours, with further operations expected in the coming period. The operation was completed successfully, though her condition remains extremely critical but stable.

The investigating team from Limassol CID has reached an advanced stage in its inquiry. According to information obtained by our website, investigators have taken most of the key statements from the couple’s relatives and friends, and have formed a clear picture of the problems the couple faced and the frequent friction between them in the recent period.

Investigators are also awaiting court orders to access both individuals’ telecommunications data and to examine their bank accounts. Through this evidence, police hope to fill in the last pieces of the puzzle, including whether the couple had spoken by phone before the attack and what their movements were beforehand.

The main question that continues to occupy investigators is how and why the couple ended up outside the lyceum where the attack took place. Investigators are examining whether the 55-year-old had gone to the location to wait for the woman, or whether the two had arranged in advance to meet there, since the spot reportedly lay on the route the woman took to work. Answers to these questions are expected once the 46-year-old is able to give a statement, even verbally.
