The Cyprus Consumers’ and Quality of Life Association is calling for wage and social benefit increases for low and middle-income households.
The Association says the state of the economy is reflected not only in general indicators, but mainly in the cost of essential goods, energy, housing, fuel and transport.
According to the latest official data from the Statistical Service, inflation based on the Consumer Price Index stood at 3.1% in June 2026. The Association says continuous price rises are limiting household purchasing power, particularly for those on low and middle incomes.
These groups spend a greater share of their income on essential needs such as food, energy, transport and housing, the Association says, making them more exposed to price rises.
The Association notes that the real earnings of low-paid workers come under pressure when wage increases fail to keep pace with the cost of living.
“The answer is nothing other than increasing the wages and benefits of the low and middle classes,” the Association said, adding that shrinking purchasing power is weighing on workers’ daily lives and quality of life.
The Association is calling on the State to take measures that substantially strengthen household incomes and limit the impact of high prices on vulnerable and middle-income groups.
