A truck was engulfed in flames in Nicosia on Saturday afternoon.
According to an update from the spokesperson of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, the vehicle caught fire in the area of Strovolos. Dark smoke covered the sky of the capital, causing concern in the surrounding area.
Two fire engines rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control. The articulated vehicle sustained extensive material damage from the fire, while the towed trailer suffered minor damage due to the heat. Fire Service personnel used water hoses and breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames.
According to initial estimates, the fire appears to have been caused by an electromechanical problem, as it broke out the moment the owner attempted to start the vehicle.
