Limassol CID investigators are focusing on financial problems, personal disputes and the couple’s recent communications as they probe the motive behind the attempted murder of a 46-year-old woman in Zakaki.
Investigators are working to establish the motive of the 55-year-old police officer, examining CCTV footage, the couple’s mobile phones and their banking activity, assessing every piece of evidence that could shed light on what preceded the murder attempt.
Phone and bank record warrants sought
As philenews has learned, the investigation is focused on the couple’s financial transactions, personal disputes that appear to have developed recently, and their most recent communications. Investigators are expected to secure court warrants to examine both of their mobile phones, whilst data on their banking activity will also be analysed.
Payment from a fund under scrutiny
According to information gathered, investigators are also examining a sum of money the 46-year-old is reported to have recently received from a specific fund. This detail is being assessed alongside information about the couple’s financial problems, with investigators examining whether financial issues triggered the escalation in tensions between them.
Witness statements, CCTV mapping continue
The collection of testimony is continuing. Interviews have already been taken from relatives, with a further round of statements to follow from people who may have knowledge of the couple’s relationship and the events preceding the attack.
Particular weight is being placed on CCTV footage, through which investigators are trying to map the 55-year-old’s movements before and after he left the Port and Marine Police station at Agios Rafail marina.
Officer shaved before leaving station, detail not yet linked to case
Reliable information indicates the officer arrived for duty earlier than his scheduled shift start time and reportedly asked for a razor, which he used to shave before leaving the station.
This detail is being assessed as part of the examination of his movements before the shooting, though it is not currently linked to anything.
Wife remains critical after lengthy surgery
CID Limassol’s investigation is continuing at an intensive pace, as investigators try to piece together the full picture of the case and establish the circumstances that led to the attempted murder.
The 46-year-old remains intubated in extremely critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital in Limassol. She was initially taken to Limassol General Hospital, where she received first aid, before being transferred to a private clinic contracted to the GHS, where she underwent lengthy surgery.
According to information gathered so far, on Tuesday morning the 46-year-old was on her way to work. Investigators are examining whether the 55-year-old was waiting for her outside the Agios Spyridonas Lyceum or whether the two had previously arranged to meet at that spot. After the 46-year-old parked her car, the 55-year-old got into the vehicle, leading to an intense argument that ended in the shooting.
