The 35-year-old man wanted for stabbing his wife and mother-in-law in Strovolos remains at large, with investigators from CID Nicosia continuing and expanding their search to several locations where he may be hiding, police said. He is considered dangerous.
The suspect had been wanted by authorities since last February over a domestic violence case but had evaded capture. Last Saturday, he struck again, stabbing his wife and mother-in-law at their home in Strovolos. Both victims, although in serious condition, are out of danger.
The Bi-Communal Committee has also been informed of the case, so that if the suspect is located in the occupied areas, he can be handed over to authorities of the Republic.
Police patrols are searching for the suspect in various areas where he may have fled, using his photograph. The two victims, his 38-year-old wife and her 58-year-old mother, are under guard at Nicosia General Hospital. They have not yet given detailed statements to establish exactly what happened or where the suspect might be.
His wife had previously been identified by police as a victim within the family, which is why she had the “ELPIS” app on her phone, intended for victims or potential victims of domestic violence. However, she had not pressed the app’s panic button.
It remains unclear why, and questions over the exact circumstances of the attack and the suspect’s motives are expected to be clarified through the victims’ statements once they are taken.
