Turkish Cypriot journalist and activist Sevgül Uludağ dies aged 68

Turkish Cypriot journalist and activist Sevgül Uludağ, known for her work investigating the fate of missing persons in Cyprus, has died aged 68.

According to Turkish Cypriot newspaper Yeni Düzen, where she was a regular columnist, Uludağ was born in Nicosia in 1958 and had worked as a journalist since 1980.

She became widely known for her long-running investigations into missing persons, giving voice to both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot relatives of those who disappeared.

Uludağ wrote for Yeni Düzen for many years and also contributed articles to Politis.Her investigations into missing persons contributed to the discovery of mass graves and helped families search for their relatives.

In 2019, Uludağ was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Anna Agathangelou, a political science professor at York University in Canada, in recognition of her work on missing persons and reconciliation in Cyprus.
