Limassol toddler death: investigators request fast-tracked toxicology and histopathology results

Investigators handling the case of a one-year-old boy who died last Thursday at Limassol hospital plan to request an expedited release of toxicology and histopathology results, police said.

The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is probing the death as unnatural. So far, the child’s family has not made any complaints of medical negligence.

Investigators continue intensive inquiries, taking statements from the child’s family and others involved in the case. The exact cause of death will be determined once the results from the samples taken from the boy’s body are returned. Once investigations are complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Legal Service for further action.

The boy had been diagnosed with gastroenteritis a few days earlier and developed a fever. According to the report under investigation by police, he received medical treatment from a paediatrician. His condition worsened, and he was taken by his parents to Limassol hospital, where he died despite doctors’ efforts to save him.
