A 31-year-old man has been detained in Paphos after a series of traffic incidents involving reckless driving, multiple collisions and alleged hit-and-run offences, police said.
According to the available information, at around 11:30 am, the driver stopped his vehicle on Griva Digeni Avenue in Paphos, reversed and collided lightly with a vehicle behind him before leaving the scene.
A police officer in the area observed the incident and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, however, did not comply and sped away, driving dangerously through city roads.
During the attempt to evade police, the driver collided with additional vehicles, causing material damage.
He later abandoned his vehicle and tried to escape on foot but was eventually intercepted and arrested by police.
Authorities reported that a warning shot was fired into the air during the incident.
Subsequent checks identified the man as a 31-year-old who is residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus.
Police in Paphos’ Minor Offences Unit and Traffic Department are continuing investigations.
