Eyewitness account reveals chaos on Larnaca-Manchester Jet2 flight before Callum Kerr died

Eyewitnesses have described scenes of disruption on the Jet2 flight from Larnaca on which Callum Kerr died, with passengers moving to the front of the aircraft and children distressed before Kerr was restrained by fellow travellers and crew in the moments before landing, according to the Manchester Evening News (MEN).

The MEN reported that Kerr, 35, from Warrington, boarded the flight with his girlfriend on 21 June and became increasingly disruptive around an hour into the journey. Witnesses described him as appearing significantly intoxicated, growing verbally abusive, and becoming physically aggressive towards other passengers and crew.

Attempts by cabin crew and the pilot to calm him were unsuccessful, the MEN reported. When told there were children on the flight, Kerr “said he didn’t care,” a witness told the MEN.

Shortly before landing, Kerr allegedly headbutted a fellow passenger and was restrained by passengers and crew. As Philenews reported, officers from Greater Manchester Police boarded the aircraft on arrival at Manchester Airport in the early hours of 22 June, found Kerr unresponsive, and performed CPR before paramedics took him to hospital, where he died on 23 June.

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed two alleged assaults — on a passenger and a cabin crew member — and has referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is examining the actions of the officers who attended. Officers are being treated as witnesses rather than suspects. Jet2, in a statement sent to en.philenews, offered its sincere condolences to Kerr’s family and friends, saying it would not comment further while investigations were ongoing.
