A 39-year-old woman is intubated and sedated in the intensive care unit of Limassol General Hospital after being found running naked on a city street yesterday afternoon, with toxicology tests returning positive results for fentanyl and other opioids, police said.
Officers from the Limassol CID responded at around 4pm to reports of a woman running naked in a state of panic on General Timaya Street. Physical restraint was required to immobilise her, authorities told philenews. During the restraint she fell to the ground.
She then began convulsing and foaming at the mouth, and had a strong smell of alcohol about her, police said. An ambulance transported her to Limassol General Hospital, where she was admitted to the ICU and placed on a ventilator. Her condition is stable.
Toxicology results confirmed the presence of fentanyl and other opioids, according to police, who said she also appeared to have consumed alcohol alongside preparations containing fentanyl-opioid substances. She sustained fractures to her right ribs.
Police established that the woman had arrived in Cyprus as a visitor from Russia on 2 June and had been due to depart in early July.
