Following a string of cases on which he has offered his professional opinion, as well as social media and press reports directed against his personal and professional integrity, well known attorney Achilleas Emilianides has issued a public response, referring to an organised slanderous attempt over a number of years, based on unfounded accusations.
Emilianides says that defamers keep uncovering past cases on which he has commented on or involved in a professional capacity, seeking evidence against him.
The first case he refers to is an incident that took place a few months before the 2008 Presidential elections, when a Sunday paper insinuated that he was connected to charges of pedophilia.
As he says in a written statement, he was alerted while abroad and immediately alerted authorities who conducted a search of the paper’s offices, finding nothing incriminating, with the publication later admitting that its sources had been unreliable and was misled.
Emilianides said that letters were sent to hundreds of people detailing the pedophilia article which carried his photo as a person interest.
His mother, late Labour minister Zeta Emilianidou also received a letter.
The top attorney, who was also led several criminal investigations as a private prosecutor, claims that ever since, there have been repeated attempts to slander him through public remarks and social media content, bringing up several cases, including ‘Sandy’.
Emilianides further notes that he had never concealed being a legal advisor in the Focus case (referred to in the Mafia State findings), adding that his involvement was well known and recorded in public documents.
‘When someone is falsely accused at a large scale, complete exoneration is almost impossible’, he concluded.
