Cyprus conducts island-wide CY-Alert system test

Cyprus sent a countrywide CY-Alert emergency notification to mobile phones across the island on Monday, simulating an abduction and missing person alert.

CY-Alert is Cyprus’s new public emergency warning system, launched on June 2. It uses cell broadcast technology to push alerts directly to mobile devices within a designated area, without requiring internet access or an app.

Monday’s exercise was a scheduled system test. Authorities clarified that no real danger existed.

According to earlier government announcements, the island-wide test on June 15 was planned as the concluding exercise of a rolling two-week trial programme.
