The government intends to announce across-the-board increases to all disability-related benefits within the coming days, President Nikos Christodoulides has indicated.
Christodoulides informed members of the Social Alliance for the Citizen — comprising the Cyprus Federation of Patient Associations, the Cyprus Confederation of Organisations of the Disabled, and the Elderly Observatory — at a meeting held today at the Presidential Palace.
According to representatives of the three organisations speaking after the meeting, Council of Ministers approval is currently pending before the increases are announced. The measures will cover all existing beneficiaries and will also extend benefits to new groups of people with disabilities.
Also raised at the meeting were the serious lack of long-term care services for elderly people and chronic patients, and delays in the implementation of the “red button” programme.
