Paphos fire believed to have been malicious

A fire that broke out early on Sunday in the Pregkos area of Neo Chorio, in Paphos district, is believed to have been started maliciously, the Forestry Department said.

The department, which falls under the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, said the fire broke out at 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

The prompt response of forest firefighting forces prevented the fire from spreading. It was brought under full control at 6:10 a.m., after burning one decare of stubble and wild vegetation.

Two Forestry Department personnel with one fire engine and two Fire Service personnel with one fire engine worked to extinguish the blaze.

According to the Forestry Department, the discovery of three simultaneous starting points led to the conclusion that the fire had been set maliciously.
