Three suspects in the Larnaca terrorism case were brought before Larnaca District Court on Thursday under heavy security and referred directly to the Criminal Court, which will sit on August 6 in Larnaca.
The fourth man, the brother of the 54-year-old suspect, was released after no connection to the case was established against him.
The three men — aged 32, 38, and 54 — face charges including terrorism and membership of a criminal organisation. The hearing was conducted in camera.
The 32-year-old and the 38-year-old are believed to be Hamas operatives who were allegedly planning terrorist strikes against Israeli targets in Cyprus.
The 57-year-old, whose children serve in the Republic of Cyprus’s security forces as Philenews has reported, had established contacts with them, according to the investigation.
The 38-year-old: key figure
The 38-year-old is considered the central figure in the case. He is believed to have entered the Republic of Cyprus illegally in recent months, allegedly via the occupied north, with the aim of manufacturing explosives and directing operations against specific targets.
He is also linked to the arrest in Greece last Saturday of a 37-year-old who confessed that the two of them were together at a Hamas camp in Malaysia in August 2025, where they trained in the manufacture of explosives. According to Greek media reports yesterday, the 37-year-old also claimed the 38-year-old had funded him.
32-year-old linked to properties where chemicals found
The 32-year-old, a Palestinian national who has been living in Cyprus for several years with his wife and child, has been linked to two properties — one at Governor’s Beach and one in Kamares, Larnaca — where chemicals were discovered, including ammonium nitrate. Investigators established that he had sourced some of these materials from the Cypriot market.
Court proceedings are continuing, as some of the suspects’ lawyers have objected to their clients’ detention.
