Emergency services announced on Saturday that at least ten people were killed in Israeli strikes launched across the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli military claimed to have killed a man they described as the commander of a Hamas terrorist cell.
Despite a ceasefire agreement theoretically in place since October 2025, the Gaza Strip continues to be torn apart by near-daily hostilities and violence.
In Gaza City, a drone fired a missile that killed eight people and wounded 15 others at the Jawazat displaced persons camp, according to the civil defence, an emergency response organisation operating under the Hamas administration.
Shifa Hospital in Gaza City confirmed that eight bodies were transported to the facility. The hospital and the civil defence published a list of the victims’ names, indicating that three of the deceased were women. Their ages were not specified.
An Israeli military spokesperson told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that they targeted terrorists in that sector, without providing further details.
Further south, 25-year-old Muhannad Othman Farwana was killed on Saturday morning in a strike targeting a tent for displaced persons, the civil defence stated. The Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis announced that several wounded individuals were admitted following the bombardment.
In a statement released on Saturday night, the Israeli military confirmed they killed Muhannad Othman Yasin Farwana in a precision strike, identifying him as a terrorist cell commander within the military wing of Hamas.
The strike targeted a tent on the roof of his house on the morning of his scheduled wedding day, his cousin, Mohamed Farwana, told AFP. He added that the whole family was preparing to celebrate the wedding, but instead of attending his wedding, they were going to his funeral.
Later in the evening, the civil defence announced the death of a 37-year-old man in another Israeli strike in a southeastern neighbourhood of Gaza City.
The Israeli military and Hamas accuse each other almost daily of violating the US-pressured ceasefire.
At least 951 Palestinians have been killed since the truce was declared on October 10, 2025, following two years of war triggered by the Hamas-led raid into southern Israel on October 7, 2023, according to data from the Hamas-run health ministry, which the UN considers reliable. On the other side, the Israeli military reports five fatalities within its ranks since the ceasefire took effect.
AFP noted that due to media restrictions imposed in the Gaza Strip and field access difficulties, it is unable to independently verify the casualty tolls and statements issued by either side.
