Cyprus hoteliers welcome US-UK travel advisory revisions

The Cyprus Hotels Association (PASYXE) has welcomed the easing of US and UK travel advisories on Cyprus, calling the move a boost for the rest of the tourist season.

PASYXE said the United States had returned Cyprus to its lowest travel advisory category, Level 1, which recommends only the usual precautions. The United Kingdom has amended its own guidance, keeping Cyprus among the destinations for which there is no recommendation to avoid travel while lowering the assessed risk level.

The association said the changes sent positive signals to the markets and created more favourable conditions for the rest of the tourist season. PASYXE added that the revisions removed insurance-related burdens that had been associated with the previous advisories and lifted the warning notices that had accompanied Cyprus on various international online booking platforms.

The revisions follow a difficult period for Cypriot tourism. The US State Department raised Cyprus to Level 3 — “Reconsider travel” — on March 3, 2026, citing the threat of armed conflict, after the onset of the US-Israel attack against Iran on February 28 and a drone strike on a building at the British Sovereign Base Area on March 2. The UK Foreign Office tightened its own guidance shortly afterwards.

PASYXE credited what it described as coordinated government efforts during the crisis, citing the Presidency and the Foreign Ministry, in working to restore Cyprus’s international image.

The association added that it had moved early in the crisis, holding successive contacts with the Cypriot embassies in the United States and the United Kingdom in support of the effort to revise the travel advisories.
