Dashcams will be legal in Cyprus from July 23, 2026, under a road safety amendment published in the Official Gazette on April 22, 2026, permitting the installation and use of image-recording devices in private, commercial, and government vehicles for specific purposes.
Permitted uses
The law permits dashcams for three purposes: protecting drivers in the event of an accident; documenting traffic code violations, accidents, or criminal acts and providing footage to police for investigation; and monitoring commercial vehicle fleets in cases of criminal activity or accidents.
Data protection
Dashcam footage must be used in a way that does not breach personal data regulations. Failure to comply may result in an administrative fine or penalty under personal data protection legislation. The Commissioner for Personal Data Protection will issue guidelines on the collection and processing of personal data and the permitted use of dashcams.
Publicly sharing or reproducing dashcam footage that includes individuals or identifying details of third parties is prohibited without their consent. Where footage includes minors, parental or guardian consent is required.
Police and insurers
Police and insurance companies may collect and use dashcam footage for the investigation of traffic offences, accidents, and criminal acts.
Court admissibility
Dashcam footage will not constitute evidence in its own right in court proceedings. It will be for the court to decide in each case whether any recording is admissible as evidence.
