Cyprus police are stepping up patrols over the Pentecost Monday (Whit Monday) three-day weekend, with public safety and road safety the stated priorities, according to a police announcement.
Increased numbers of officers — particularly from traffic departments — will be deployed on motorways, intercity roads, and main arterial routes.
Intensified checks will target offences known to contribute to fatal and serious collisions, including speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Police are also urging drivers to take extra care given the higher-than-usual traffic volumes expected on the road network over the holiday period, and to comply with traffic regulations, road signs, and the instructions of officers on duty.
