A psychologist has been found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage patient, the Limassol Criminal Court ruled on Wednesday, convicting him on four counts and remanding him in custody pending sentencing submissions.
The case, heard behind closed doors, centred on offences committed against a minor who was approximately 17 and a half years old at the time and was attending sessions with the defendant as his patient. The court found he had abused the position of trust, power, and influence he held over the complainant.
The four counts relate to child sexual abuse under the Prevention and Combating of Sexual Abuse, Sexual Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography Law (N. 91(Ι)/2014) and the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence Law (N. 115(Ι)/2021).
The prosecution called nine witnesses, including the complainant herself. The defendant testified under oath and called three witnesses in his defence.
The court ordered the defendant remanded until the next hearing, scheduled for early June, when submissions on sentencing will be heard.
