University of Cyprus gets green light for its first English-language undergraduate degree

The Council of Ministers approved the University of Cyprus’s first foreign-language inter-university undergraduate programme, with the announcement made by the university’s rector.

In an online post, Professor Tasos Christofidis said he had learned with great pleasure that the Council of Ministers had approved the YUFE Bachelor in Urban Sustainability Studies, describing it as an innovative programme of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) alliance. The programme is set to launch in September 2026.

Christofidis said the university had promised to make full use of the new legislative framework, calling today’s approval the first significant step. He added that he was confident further competitive English-language undergraduate programmes would be announced soon, with a focus on internationalisation.

The YUFE Bachelor in Urban Sustainability Studies combines interdisciplinary learning, international experience and sustainability, preparing students to meet the challenges of modern cities and societies, according to Christofidis.

The University of Cyprus said further details about the programme would be announced shortly.
