Polling stations located within the refugee settlements of Larnaca are witnessing a moving turnout of elderly displaced voters today. Many are arriving supported by family members to exercise their electoral rights, a civic duty they have performed without fail for decades.
Among them is 93-year-old Georgia Piripitsi from the occupied village of Lysi. Despite facing mobility issues, she remained dedicated to her civic duty and arrived at the Kokkines Primary School to cast her ballot, noting that she has never missed a single election.
Speaking to Philenews, she stated that she always votes and feels good doing so, adding that she casts her ballot with the hope of returning to her beloved village. Supported by her niece, she expressed bitterness regarding her age, noting that she does not know if she will live long enough to return to Lysi.
