A 75-year-old woman has died following a fatal accident inside a hotel car park in Paphos on Friday afternoon.
Margery Balfour lost her life after the incident, which occurred at around 1:50 p.m., police said.
A 56-year-old man was driving his car out of the hotel car park when he noticed the 75-year-old walking and gave her priority to pass, according to investigators.
The woman then appeared to lose her balance and fall onto the asphalt. At the same time, the 56-year-old driver, unaware that she had fallen, moved his vehicle forward to exit the car park, causing one of the car’s wheels to strike the woman in the back while she was still on the ground, the evidence indicates.
An ambulance was called to the scene and took the 75-year-old to Paphos General Hospital, where she was admitted for surgery. The woman succumbed to her injuries during the operation.
The driver of the car was arrested under a judicial warrant and detained to facilitate further enquiries, police said.
Paphos Traffic Police are continuing their investigation.
