Fire Service to run high-rise emergency drill at Nicosia’s Labs Tower on Thursday

Cyprus’s Fire Service and Police will conduct a large-scale emergency readiness drill at Labs Tower on Fotis Pitta and Mykinon streets in Nicosia on Thursday May 21, between 10:00 and 11:00, with the building to be fully evacuated and surrounding roads closed during the exercise.

According to a joint announcement, the drill is a specialist exercise in a high-rise building and will involve specially equipped Fire Service and Police vehicles and personnel carrying out a full building evacuation and simulated rescue of casualties.

The announcement said Labs Tower was selected for the exercise due to the building management’s professional relationship with the emergency services and the building’s fire safety systems.

The stated aim of the exercise is to modernise emergency response systems and provide a framework for planning, training and the execution of operations in high-rise emergency scenarios, according to the announcement.

Labs Tower’s management said the drill formed part of the building’s corporate social responsibility commitments and reflected the importance it places on health and safety for its occupants.
