Cyprus dam levels nearly double last year’s figure as small dams overflow

Cyprus dam levels stand at 39.6% today, almost double the 23% recorded on the same date last year, according to Marios Hatzikostis, First Technical Engineer at the Water Development Department (WDD).

Hatzikostis said the total volume stored across Cyprus’s dams currently stands at 115.2 million cubic metres, compared with 66.7 million cubic metres at the same point in 2025. Several small dams are overflowing.

The major dams of the Southern Conveyance hold 67 million cubic metres, equivalent to 35.5% capacity, while Paphos dams are slightly better placed at 31.2 million cubic metres, or 43.5%.

Hatzikostis said dam levels are expected to rise further next week, though he cautioned the increase would be gradual. “This is not the time of year when we will see inflows of millions of cubic metres in 24 hours or in a week, but we will have satisfactory inflows for the season,” he said.
