Around 600,000 Cypriots visited Greece in 2025 for holidays or other purposes, Greek Ambassador Konstantinos Kollias said on Monday, as the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) in Cyprus presented its summer 2026 holiday proposals at an event in Nicosia.
Greece is expected to be the top holiday destination for Cypriots again this summer, EOT Cyprus director Athena Spakouri said at the April 28 event. She said the goal was to promote not only well-known destinations but also areas with a strong tradition and Greek hospitality.
Spakouri stressed that Cyprus and Greece are complementary rather than competing tourist destinations, and said the two countries can develop joint tourism programmes targeting markets such as China and the United States. Despite difficulties caused by the war in Iran, she said this year is expected to be equally strong for Greek tourism.
Kollias, whose greeting was read by Eleni Bisbikopoulou, said frequent flight connections and short flight times make Greece easily accessible to Cypriots, while the Limassol-Piraeus ferry link further expands travel options. He said Greece offers a strong tourism product across a range of sectors, with beach holidays dominant but growth in cultural, religious, gastronomic, agrotourism, ecotourism, spa, conference and medical tourism.
Yiousif Yiousif, president of the Cyprus-Greece Business Association, said Greece functions as a second home for Cypriot holidaymakers. He noted that EOT places emphasis on gastronomic tourism, cultural routes, thematic and religious tourism, and city breaks in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Airlines Aegean, SkyExpress and Cyprus Airways presented their summer programmes, focusing on strengthening air links between Cyprus and Greece and expanding options for Greek island destinations.
Bishop of Mesaoria Grigorios also addressed the event, speaking about the historical, cultural and spiritual ties between Greece and Cyprus. Representatives of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Hermes Airports, travel agents and members of ACTAA attended.
