Cyprus has signed a €6.4 million contract for the construction of a central bus station in Larnaca, with work expected to begin around mid-May 2026, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announced.

The contract, valued at €6,387,000 plus VAT, was signed on Friday, April 24, by Stelios Zervos, Deputy Director of the Public Works Department, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, and Alkis Iakovou on behalf of the contractor, Iacovou Brothers (Constructions) Ltd. The contract was awarded following an open tender.

The station will be built on a state-owned plot near Larnaca marina, a site selected through the Larnaca Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan process as the best option for developing transport infrastructure, organising traffic flow and integrating with wider development in the area.

The station is designed to serve urban, intercity and regional bus routes simultaneously, as well as direct connections to Larnaca International Airport.

The project covers two sections. The first involves widening a section of Fallirou Street to accommodate bus entry and exit, with a road axis of around 108 metres, a total road width of 15.5 metres and pavements on both sides.

The second covers the construction of station buildings, including ticket offices, office space, a waiting room, a cafeteria, and facilities for both the public and staff.

The buildings will sit under a metal canopy covering 3,100 square metres, on a total site area of approximately 9,750 square metres.

The station will include eight bus stops, nine bus parking spaces, seven staff parking spaces, two taxi spaces, one disabled parking space, a maintenance area with two bus bays, a storage room and a temporary taxi pick-up and drop-off area.

The project is being implemented under the EU co-funded Cohesion Policy Programme “Thalia 2021-2027”, with payments handled by the Public Works Department.
