A burglary victim tracked his stolen AirPods to a rented villa in Protaras, setting in motion a chain of events that led to the arrest of two suspects at Paphos airport as they were preparing to leave Cyprus, police said.
The victim, a 37-year-old man, reported the theft of cash and two pairs of AirPods worth a combined €900. Following the signal from the devices, he traced them to the villa where the suspects were staying, knocked on the door and, after seeing their faces, alerted police.
The pair left before officers arrived, but were identified. They were located and arrested yesterday afternoon at Paphos airport as they were about to depart, according to philenews.
The suspects, a 51-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, had arrived in Cyprus on April 12 and were staying at a villa in Protaras. Between April 13 and yesterday, Famagusta Police received four burglary complaints from the same area, with cash, electrical and electronic devices reported stolen.
The two were brought today by the Famagusta CID before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni, which ordered a seven-day remand in custody.
Further investigations established that the 51-year-old is linked to ten additional burglaries and home thefts committed in Paralimni in 2023 and 2025, police said. His face had been captured on CCTV footage. The targeted area was the same part of Protaras, where most properties are holiday villas.
The Famagusta CID is continuing its investigation to determine whether the suspects are linked to further burglaries in the area.
