Man arrested after car hits 19-year-old outside Larnaca nightclub

Police are investigating a suspected attempted murder after a 22-year-old Greek Cypriot allegedly drove his car into a 19-year-old man outside a nightclub in Larnaca in the early hours of today.

Police said the case also involves allegations of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, reckless and negligent acts, assault causing actual bodily harm and malicious damage.

According to police, the suspect met the 19-year-old, who was his girlfriend’s former partner, inside the nightclub. Both men were with other people and got into an argument, after which security staff removed the suspect from the premises.

Police said that as the 19-year-old was leaving with his group, he was told the suspect was puncturing his car tyres. As he headed towards his vehicle, the suspect allegedly got into his own car and deliberately drove it at increasing speed towards him, hitting him with the front of the vehicle and throwing him over the roof and onto the road.

The victim was taken to hospital by friends and was found to have suffered superficial head abrasions and an injury to his knee. He was later discharged.

Larnaca CID arrested the suspect and is continuing its investigation. He is expected to appear before the district court tomorrow in a remand request.
