The United States failed to gain the trust of the Iranian delegation during high-level negotiations in Islamabad, despite Tehran presenting “forward-looking” initiatives, Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Sunday.
Qalibaf, who was a member of the negotiating team in the Pakistani capital, stated that the burden of progress now lies with Washington.
“The U.S. has understood Iran’s logic and principles and it’s time for them to decide whether they can earn our trust or not,” Qalibaf said in a post on X.
The Speaker’s comments follow 21 hours of intense discussions in Pakistan aimed at resolving long-standing tensions. While US officials previously indicated that “red lines” regarding Iran’s nuclear programme were a sticking point, Qalibaf suggested that the Iranian side had offered constructive proposals that were not met with sufficient American assurances.
