The Blood Centre is running emergency blood donation sessions on Good Friday to secure stocks for the entire Easter holiday period, according to Blood Centre officer Giannakis Andreou.
“Although Good Friday is a public holiday, emergency blood donation sessions will operate, so that donors who did not come in previous days because they did not have free time due to work also have the opportunity,” Andreou said.
Four stations will be open today across Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca:
- Engomi Blood Centre, Nicosia: 10:30am to 4:00pm
- Mall of Cyprus, Nicosia: 11:00am to 5:00pm
- Blood Centre at Limassol General Hospital: 10:30am to 4:30pm
- New wing of Larnaca General Hospital: 10:00am to 2:00pm
Andreou said all scheduled blood transfusions have been covered and stocks are secured through to Easter Monday. The Blood Centre has also met increased demand for transplants in recent days ahead of the holidays.
Special efforts were made to attract students returning home for Easter, Andreou said, securing the stocks needed to avoid shortages, delays or postponements to both scheduled and emergency transplants. “The response of donors ahead of Easter was quite satisfactory,” he said.
All donation centres will return to normal operations on Easter Tuesday.
