More arrests expected over Trachoni youth brawl as jaw injury victim faces surgery

Further arrests are expected in connection with a violent brawl in Trachoni near the British Bases in Limassol in the early hours of Holy Thursday, with new court warrants already issued against additional suspects, philenews has learned.

Two people have been arrested so far, but the circle of arrests is expected to widen within hours, according to philenews sources. Three people remain hospitalised at Limassol General Hospital, one of whom has sustained a serious jaw injury and may require surgery.

The brawl began as a dispute between minors of Greek Cypriot and Syrian origin, which sources said appears to have originated from a conflict in the school environment they share. The minors arranged to meet near a church in Trachoni to settle the dispute, according to philenews sources.

When parents from both sides arrived at the scene, the situation escalated rather than calmed. A second brawl broke out, this time involving the parents themselves, resulting in injuries to several people and extensive damage to vehicles.

British Bases Police responded immediately to the incident and carried out the initial arrests. A full investigation is under way, including into the reportedly racially motivated nature of the incident.
