Cyprus passes 111% of April’s normal rainfall in just seven days

Cyprus has recorded more rainfall in the first seven days of April than normally falls in the entire month, with preliminary data from the Department of Meteorology showing the island has already reached 111% of its April normal.

The average total rainfall from 1 April to 09:00 on 7 April stood at 33.2mm — against a monthly normal of 29.9mm for the whole of April. Of the 17 areas covered in the Department’s bulletin, only five had not yet exceeded their monthly normal.

Kellaki recorded the highest proportion of its monthly normal, reaching 169% with 56.2mm. Saittas followed at 137% with 65.5mm, while Platania — which recorded the highest absolute total at 67.2mm — stood at 129% of its normal. Prodromos reached 91% of its April normal with 48.6mm.

In the 24 hours to 09:00 on 7 April, the average rainfall across the island was 5.2mm. Saittas recorded 33.6mm in that period alone — approaching its entire monthly normal of 47.8mm.
