Crash sends driver to hospital on Limassol-Nicosia highway near Kornos

A driver was taken to the hospital on Sunday afternoon after a crash on the Limassol-Nicosia highway near Kornos, police said, as torrential rain continued to hit the area.

Police said the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle under circumstances still under investigation. The car first struck the central barrier before ending up in the hard shoulder.

Debris from the vehicle was scattered across the road, while an ambulance was called to take the driver to the hospital.

The crash happened as torrential rain fell on the Nicosia-Limassol highway in the Kornos and Kofinou area, causing water to build up on the road and reducing visibility, according to police.

Police urged drivers to exercise particular caution, drive at low speed, maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead and keep their headlights on.
