Cyprus is set for a spell of unsettled weather on Sunday, with cloud, localised rain, thunderstorms and possible hail expected during the day, while the conditions are likely to continue through at least the first days of Holy Week, according to the Meteorological Department.
The department said a weak low-pressure system is affecting the area.
The weather will start partly cloudy, with a chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly in the west and the mountains. By around midday and in the early afternoon, conditions will turn locally mainly cloudy, with localised rain and isolated thunderstorms expected mainly in the mountains and across the eastern half of the island.
Hail may fall during thunderstorms, while winds are expected to strengthen at times in the afternoon and may become strong.
Temperatures are expected to reach around 20 °C inland and on the coast, and around 10 °C in the higher mountains. Frost is expected to form locally overnight.
On Holy Monday and Holy Tuesday, there will be periods of increased cloud, which are expected to bring localised rain and isolated thunderstorms around midday and in the early afternoon, mainly inland and across the eastern half of the island.
On Holy Wednesday, the weather will be partly cloudy and isolated showers remain possible.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Holy Tuesday and will remain slightly below average for the season, while a small rise is expected on Holy Wednesday.
