The smell of flaounes filled Tala village centre on the last day of school

The centre of Tala village in Paphos filled with the scent of Easter on Friday morning, as dozens of local women baked traditional pastries and dyed Easter eggs for the village’s schoolchildren on the last day before the holidays.

Members of the Zena Kanther Women’s Association organised the event in cooperation with the local community authority and Tala Primary School, giving pupils from both the primary school and kindergarten a hands-on introduction to Easter preparations.

The children attended a service at the village church first, then made their way to the event, where association members were already preparing flaounes, pascies, and other seasonal treats. The baking and egg-dyeing continued until midday, with pupils following the process closely and joining in enthusiastically under the guidance of the women.

Community leader Yiannakis Kokkinou described the Zena Kanther Women’s Association as a highly active and well-organised group. He said the event had given the children the joy of tasting freshly made Easter foods and learning local customs first-hand, and thanked the association’s members for their readiness to support every community event. He wished everyone a happy Easter.
