Foreign investors in Cyprus are now legally required to notify the Ministry of Finance and obtain screening approval before completing investments, as a new law for screening foreign investments came into effect on 2 April 2026.
An online service to handle applications has been launched simultaneously, the Ministry of Finance and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy said in a joint announcement today.
The law applies to foreign direct investments falling within its scope made from 2 April 2026 onwards. Investors must notify the Ministry of Finance before an investment is completed, submitting the required information and documentation for screening.
The online service allows investors and their authorised representatives to submit applications electronically, enter the required details and attach supporting documents in accordance with the law.
It is available through the government portal at gov.cy and through the Ministry of Finance website, where a dedicated “Foreign Direct Investment Screening” section provides further information.
