Firefighters and police were mobilised on Wednesday afternoon after a fire broke out in police cells at Limassol police headquarters at around 4:50 p.m.
According to initial information, a detainee started the fire inside his cell. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
For safety reasons, the authorities immediately evacuated the area and moved detainees to a safe place.
The fire was extinguished by the Fire Service, while examinations are expected to follow.
