Three people were seriously wounded — one with gunshot wounds to the legs — in an attempted murder in Limassol on Monday evening, in what police believe may have been triggered by social media posts about the war in Iran.
The incident involved two groups of Iranians, some of whom appear to be related to each other. Six people aged between 32 and 43 have been arrested, three of whom are among the injured. Limassol District Court ordered eight days of remand in custody for one suspect and four days for the other five. Police are seeking at least four more people in connection with the case.
According to sources, testimony secured by police indicates the altercation was linked to posts made on social media by the 32-year-old suspect relating to the political situation in Iran. Statements taken from those involved suggest the same suspect is the person who allegedly fired a pistol and wounded one of the group.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the movements of those involved, and are working to locate the weapon used. One of the six people arrested is reportedly residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus since October 2025.
