Britain to deploy Sky Sabre air defence system in Saudi Arabia as Healey visits Gulf allies

Britain is deploying additional air defence equipment across the Gulf as Iranian attacks continue, defence minister John Healey announced on Tuesday during visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain, Reuters reports.

The Sky Sabre ground-based air defence system, used by the British Army, will be deployed in Saudi Arabia. The deployment of British Typhoon fighter jets in Qatar, where the UK operates a joint squadron with its Qatari partners, will be extended. Britain’s Lightweight Multirole Launcher is already in Bahrain, where it is being integrated into that country’s defence systems, the Ministry of Defence said.

Healey held talks with allies during the visit, covering the Strait of Hormuz and further UK-Gulf cooperation on regional security.

“I pay tribute to the heroic efforts of our partners across the Gulf in protecting their nations,” Healey said. “We will stand by our long-term partners in the Middle East and continue to push for a swift resolution to this conflict.”
