Limassol man stabbed after reporting his alleged attackers to immigration authorities, police say

A 27-year-old woman has been remanded in custody for seven days after a man was stabbed in the abdomen in the Trachoni area of Limassol on Saturday night, in an incident allegedly triggered by a complaint the victim had made against the suspects to the Civil Registry and Migration Department.

The suspect appeared before Limassol District Court today after being arrested yesterday. She faces investigation on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, wounding, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, carrying a weapon to cause terror, carrying a knife, common assault and threats. Two of her relatives are also being sought in connection with the case.

Police were alerted by Limassol General Hospital after the 34-year-old victim was brought in by ambulance from Trachoni with a wound to the left abdominal area from a sharp instrument. He received first aid and was discharged.

In his statement to police, the victim said that while walking on the main road in Trachoni on Saturday night, a white car without number plates stopped in front of him. He said the 27-year-old, whom he knows, got out of the driver’s seat followed by two others. According to his account, the group approached him shouting and threatening him over a complaint he had made against them to the Civil Registry and Migration Department regarding their residency status in Cyprus. He alleges the suspect then threatened to kill him and stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife.

The victim also told police that the three individuals are relatives who had helped him, for payment, to submit documents to obtain a residence and work permit in Cyprus, and that his complaint against them was what prompted the attack.

During questioning, the suspect denied meeting the victim that evening. She said the 34-year-old is her husband — the two married in their home country and are now separated. Her claims are being investigated. Arrest warrants have been issued for the two other individuals still being sought. CCTV footage from the area is expected to be reviewed as part of the investigation.
