Flashes in the night sky over Cyprus triggered public alarm on Tuesday, with many fearing the lights could be missiles posing a danger to the island, against the backdrop of ongoing bombardments in the Middle East.
No official explanation for the phenomenon has been issued. No public warning systems were activated and no sirens sounded — neither at the British Bases nor elsewhere on the island.
Images and videos of the flashes spread widely online.
